These lighters transcend utility, embodying French artistry and history. Today, I’m proud to present what may be the most significant collection of S.T. Dupont’s Gold Dust lacquered lighters ever assembled.

🔥 S.T. Dupont’s Lacquering Legacy
Founded in 1872 by Simon Tissot-Dupont in Paris, S.T. Dupont initially specialized in high-end leather goods, including luxury travel cases. As the brand evolved, it expanded to lighters, pens, and jewelry, quickly establishing itself as a leader in luxury accessories. From its inception, the brand has championed craftsmanship, with each product meticulously crafted using traditional techniques. This dedication continues today, especially in their expert engraving and lacquering processes.

Among S.T. Dupont’s defining techniques, the tradition of Chinese lacquer holds special significance. An art form dating back over 7,000 years, Chinese lacquer reached S.T. Dupont’s workshop by serendipity. In 1935, Lucien Dupont placed an advertisement for a metal-plater, but a misprint described the position as a “metal lacquerer.” By chance, Georges Novossiltzeff, a Russian lacquer master, responded. Known affectionately as “Novos,” he became S.T. Dupont’s first master lacquerer, introducing the ancient technique of metal lacquering, which remains integral to the brand today.

🔥 Preserving a Living Tradition
This legacy of lacquering has been upheld by generations of artisans, with current Master Craftsman Yoann Viard as its guardian. Trained by the previous master lacquerer in 2004, Viard’s exceptional skill was formally acknowledged in 2018, when he was awarded the title of "Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres" by the French Minister of Culture, a prestigious honor for contributions to French art and literature. Yoann ensures that every item crafted by S.T. Dupont meets the brand’s exacting standards of luxury and artistry, preserving a rich tradition for future generations.
