Tips to Locate and Serve evasive targets

In this video I am going to share some tips and strategies on how to locate and serve evasive targets. My name is Tim Santoni and I have been a private investigator for over 20 years. Me and my team have tackled over a thousand difficult locate and serves for law firms over the years.

We get a ton of cases that are referred to us for locate investigations or skip-traces because the process server couldn’t get a defendant or witness served. The crazy thing is that many, many times the address where the process server is attempting service is a good ADDRESS.

In my experience a traditional process server is effective about 75% of the time, but when they aren’t it can really causes issues with your case.

Remember that a traditional process server is serving hundreds of documents at addresses in a given area. They hit the door and move. They don’t check with neighbors, they don’t write down plates of vehicles and they don’t check the Amazon packages on the porch.

The time and expense associated with re-scheduling depositions is also an issue. When you can’t get a defendant served after filing your lawsuit your client can get a little anxious.

The problem with traditional process servers is that they offer a certain number of attempts for a set price that is fairly low, say $50-$150.

Be sure to stick around to the end of the VIDEO. I will be sharing a bonus tip on serving evasive targets that have RING Cameras.

When it comes to locating and serving targets you need to begin with the end in mind. First you need to know what you are serving. If you are serving a lawsuit or small claims case know that sub-service so it’s important to have or develop an address where the defendant lives, works or receives mail. If you are serving a document that requires appearance like at deposition subpoena, trial subpoena or notice of judgment debtor exam you must PERSONALLY serve the target.

The other thing you must consider is the timeline. If you have a few days to locate and serve a target the TACTICS are different than when you have a few weeks.

Once you understand the type of legal document you are serving and the timeline you can create a solid plan.
