Doolgunna Homestead, 150 kms North of Meekatharra, Western Australia

Описание к видео Doolgunna Homestead, 150 kms North of Meekatharra, Western Australia

Doolgunna Homestead, is a old pastoral homestead which is in very good condition compared to some other homesteads we've visited. The caretaker, who has been there for about 12 yrs has done a great job of maintaining the homestead grounds. You can see a magnificent Acacia tree in front of a small machinery shed. The caretaker informed us the Acacia was planted from a seed of the Acacia tree outside Broome's post office, we don't know how long ago. It must have been many many years ago because it's colossal; approx. 15 mts tall by 25 mts wide. You can't miss it when you're at the homestead and you can see it in the video.

You can find Doolgunna Homestead and Doolgunna Station in the Murchison Region of Western Australia. It's about 150kms North East of Meekatharra. The station covers an area of approx. 131,523 hectares.

Doolgunna is a old Pastoral Lease which was taken over in 2001 by the Department of Conservation and Land Management (CALM) which acquired the lease and today it is managed by the Yugunga-Nya People. The caretaker informed us that Wright Family were the owners prior to CALM purchasing the lease. Other owners of Doolgunna Pastoral Lease were G.J. Howard (1929), The Davies Family (1950). There is an old shearing shed about 750mts from the homestead, however we couldn't see any old shearing equipment. You can, though, see where the clippers would have been on the wall and the sheep runs. Surprisingly, you'll also find very good accommodation quarters at Doolgunna Homestead, we didn't stay there this time but they would offer a nice respite from a cold desert night. Check with the caretaker for more information.

Doolgunna is on the lands of the Yugunga-Nya People.
