Описание к видео Red alert in Kerala coast in the wake of Burevi cyclonic storm

Red alert has been issued in Kerala coast in the wake of Burevi cyclone. The change in the alert came as the storm was nearing to Indian coast. As of now, Burevi is 120 kms away from the Indian coast. Heavy rains are expected in southern Kerala from Thursday night and southern districts have also been served with cyclone alerts. Red alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts. Isolated heavy rains are also expected to lash in these districts within the next three hours. Iddukki and Ernakulam district has been issued with orange alerts.

It is expected that when the cyclone reaches Kerala its intensity will be reduced and it will transform itself into a deep depression. Central Kerala will also witness heavy rains and there are also chances for coastal areas to witness strong winds and violent waves. As of now 2,849 relief camps have been set up in the state. State administration has also taken measures to evacuate people from dangerous zones and disaster prone areas. Eight companies of NDRF are camping in the state. Disaster response force officials said that the speed of winds may vary in the state.

They added that in Kerala Burevi’s initial presence will be felt in the form of heavy rains and strong winds. Disaster Management Authority’s secretary informed that until December 5, Burevi’s impact would be felt in Kerala. Accident prone branches of trees should be cut down. Roofs of houses should be strengthened. As of now, latest reports suggests that the cyclone could enter into Kerala via Thiruvananthapuram Ponmudy. The latest update comes in the warning message of IMD. It also says that the speed of winds will be up to 65 kms.

IMD’s latest weather forecast predicts chances for heavy rains in seven southern districts of Kerala, within the next three hours. A special control room has been opened in Thiruvananthapuram. The capital city is also engaged in the cyclone mitigation efforts. District collector Novjot Singh Khosa has said that Thiruvananthapuram is fully under cyclone alerts. The next 48 hours are very crucial.

Camps have been set up to relocate people, the collector said. On Thursday, the cyclone is expected to cross the Gulf of Mannar and reach Kanyakumari. At that time the wind speed of the cyclone will be around 100 km/hr. It will be at Pampan around noon and by either Thursday night or by Friday early morning it will cross the coast between Pampan and Kanyakumari. By Friday afternoon, the cyclone is expected to reach Thiruvananthapuram at a wind speed of 70 kms. If the strong winds and rain occurs then power distribution will be stopped to avert accidents.

Candles, Emergency lamp, Medicines, charged mobile radios should be kept. Revenue minister E Chandrasekharan has said that precautionary measures are being strongly implemented in the coastal region. Nobody should deny the direction of the government not to venture into the sea. The minister also said that steps have been taken to safely bring back the fisherman who are already in the sea. Until further orders from state disaster management authority nobody should venture into the sea.

Cyclones are uncommon occurrences in Kerala. Even though the Ockhi strom has lashed out in the state it hasn’t created any destruction on the land. Kerala only bore minor consequences as it only passed through areas near the Kerala coast. Last year, the Gaja cyclone passed through Kerala with very low intensity. But it has created serious destruction in Alappuzha.

Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has informed that Burevi cyclone will reach Thiruvananthapuram region by Friday. On December 4 early morning, the cyclone will reach southern Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Until three to five days, there will be strong winds and rain in seven districts from Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam. Evaluating the preparedness of the state govt, the chief minister has talked with the Prime minister. Chief minister after the meeting has informed the media that he briefed the measures taken by the state government to the Prime Minister.

It is expected there are chances for strong waves and violent seas in the coastal areas. Fishermen are banned from venturing into the sea until Saturday. In high range areas of the state, including Idukki, there are possibilities for strong winds with a speed of 60 km/hr. There are also chances for landslides in hilly areas. In Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and in certain parts of Idukki, authorities predict flooding due to heavy rains. An unusual weather situation is existing in the state, which involves high speed winds therefore adequate precautions should be taken to avert possible accidents.

Those who are not living under strong roofs will be shifted to safer places. Steps has been taken to chop
