The Afghan Whigs are an American rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio. They were active from 1986 to 2001 and have since reformed as a band. The group – with core members Greg Dulli (vocals, rhythm guitar), Rick McCollum (lead guitar), and John Curley (bass) – rose up around the grunge movement, evolving from a garage band in the vein of the Replacements to incorporate more R&B and soul influences into their sound and image. After releasing their first album independently in 1988, the band signed to the Seattle-based label Sub Pop. They released their major-label debut and fourth album, Gentlemen, in 1993. Pitchfork described them as "one of the few alt-bands to flourish on a major label" in the 1990s.

I've always loved the Whigs, damn they are so underrated! They were such a great band and were so different from the bands in their time. They had soul and a touch of R&B incorporated with their style of heavy rock. Rick McCollum was one of my guitar heroes alongside James Iha of the Smashing Pumpkins these guys weren't the best shredders but they had style and they make some of the best riffs in rock. Anyways Honky's Ladder is one of my favorites from the Whigs! This was a bit of a chore to do cause man the slide parts Rick made was so intricate. But when he plays it live he was as reckless as me but he had more precision I guess. I got close though I think! 😁

** oh and I just love that line: "No one ever could shake that ladder like I could"!
