Unfortunately a song that is still true about 40 years after it was written.

I want to put a disclaimer here, though. The term Universal Soldier may seem like blaming individuals, but beyond that, it points responsibility at society and institutions that create a culture where killing and dying for a cause is noble, and to oppose is cowardice.

That's what I think Donovan means. Not individuals are evil or bad, but institutional violence is propped up by individuals who are unaware of their impact.

This sends no hate to people or countries, as hate never did anything good.
