How To: Replace the Lock Snib

Tools required: Screwdriver, safety glasses and gloves.

We're going to show you how to replace the lock snib, which is the mechanism used to engage the lock. If the snib is damaged or broken, it should be replaced.

Locate the two screws. Using a screwdriver to take the screws out. Turn them counter clockwise and make sure you are holding the handle so it does not fall. Once you have removed the screws, the handle slides out.

You now have access to the snib, which also slides out. These two grooves slide into the door and catch in order for it to operate up and down.

To put the handle back on, you want to take the handle and slide it into these two holes. Make sure the handle is flushed against the mounting plate.

Once your screws are set, hold the handle flush. Starting with the top, turn the screw clockwise until it is flushed with the top of the hole. Screw in the bottom until it is flushed.

Check the snib operation to ensure it is installed correctly. Shut the door and ensure the lock engages.
