Exceptional footage of saxophonist King Curtis and the Kingpins, a live TV appearance only weeks before he was tragically killed outside his apartment in Manhatten. King Curtis was very much a star in his own right, his soulful sax graced the recordings of Aretha Franklin (Respect), Buddy Holly, Jimi Hendrix and many others. The world lost a great talent in 1971, but over 50 years later this unearthed footage serves as a reminder of the soulful magic King Curtis blew into his glorious saxophone.
