We must never be afraid to be alone, for it is at such moments that God speaks to us. Solitude is not a bad thing. It's actually an opportunity for God to speak to us. Our relationship with God is a personal one, and He deals with us one-on-one. The Bible says that Jacob was left alone, and it was during this time that Jacob had an experience with God that changed his entire life and the lives of his lineage for generations to come. While alone, Jacob wrestled with a man until the breaking of the day. When we are alone, sometimes we feel like we are going through a difficult time or a difficult situation, and this is what Jacob experienced. He experienced a warfare, a spiritual battle, and he had to fight his way through it. This teaches us that we have to fight for our blessings. We have to exert effort into reaching for and getting those blessings, in prayer, in reading and meditating on the word of God, in fasting, in praise and worship. For it is in God that our answer lies. Jacob's battle was so intense that his life changed both physically and spiritually; "and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him." He now had a physical sign of his spiritual warfare and his name was changed to, to become the father of the nation that would have a covenant with God. His personality and character was also changed in the process. We must continue in spiritual warfare so that God will open the doors that he has in store for us. It is not straightforward, but if we keep on seeking God in his word, in prayer, and in worship, the light will appear. That dawn of day of will appear. Psalms chapter 30:5 says that weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning, and this is what happened with Jacob. At the break of dawn, he got his blessing, and his generations after him completely changed. His name changed from Jacob, meaning supplanter or deceiver, to Israel, which means "God fights," "God prevails," or "one who struggles with God". This was now his new identity.
Jesus was also left alone in the garden of Gethsemane, where He experienced intense anguish and prayer before his arrest. On the cross, he was alone and despair, to the extent where he cried out; "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" But it was this experience that changed the course of man forever. It was through his death that all people could now be reconciled to God.
So we must never be afraid to be left alone or to be in solitude, for it is at those times that God reveals and manifests himself and His will to us. May God bless you as you listen and watch this video. Amen.
