Xu Mengdong (徐孟东 b.1953) is a Chinese composer born in Zhejiang. Sound from Ancient Times, for Cello and Orchestra, was commissioned by Shanghai Spring International Music Festival. According to Xu, this work takes the "inspiration" from the lives and spirits as reflected in the literati of Wei and Jing Dynasty. The whole work is derived from a motif: DGDC.
