A federal judge has blocked the deployment of additional National Guard troops to Portland, following President Trump's announcement to send troops from the Texas and California National Guard to the city. The decision, handed down Sunday night, prevents troops from any state from being deployed to Portland, where local leaders argue no intervention is needed.

Portland Mayor Keith Wilson criticized the president's actions, stating, "This is yet another unnecessary and inflammatory attempt by the president to deploy outside troops in Portland where no intervention is warranted."

Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek and Mayor Wilson issued a joint statement in response to the ruling. Kotek said, "This ruling is another validation of the facts on the ground in Portland. It is also a clear and forceful rebuttal to President Trump's misuse of states' National Guard."

Mayor Wilson added, "The court affirmed what common sense tells us: If Portland doesn't need federal troops from Oregon, then we do not need federal troops from California -- or anywhere else."

Despite the ruling, about 100 California National Guard troops were sent to Portland on Sunday, with plans to send an additional 100. In response, the White House issued a statement asserting, "President Trump exercised his lawful authority to protect federal assets and personnel in Portland following violent riots and attacks on law enforcement."
