This ANAB webinar addresses what is metrology. It is presented by Randy Long, whose long career in calibration laboratories began in the US navy. He had extensive experience in commercial laboratories before becoming the Associate Director of Accreditation at ANAB.
Metrology is the science of measurement. This webinar deals with:

Metrology in everyday life
• Children measuring themselves, counting currency, weighing yourself, monitor your car speedometer, monitor finances

Metrology in business
• Inventory counts, profits and losses, measure successes and trends

Metrology in industry
Metrology in testing and product certification
• Everything is tested (size, strength, color, temperature, output characteristics, chemical characteristics)
• Confidence that equipment meets requirements. Products (toys, cell phones, etc.,) are certified to enter a country’s markets.
• Accredited calibrations support quantities, weights, etc.,

Traceability and uncertainty
• Traceability comes in traceability of materials and metrological traceability
• Metrological traceability must include uncertainty of measurement
