The Rhune railway, also called the Rhune train or the little Rhune train is an electrified metre-gauge rack railway line located in the Basque Country in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques . It is one of the few rack railways in France still in service. On a metre-gauge line , inaugurated in 1924 , vintage electric traction trains run during the tourist season. The line connects the Col de Saint-Ignace , about 10 km east of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, to the summit of the Rhune at an altitude of 905 m , on the Franco-Spanish border.
The line climbs La Rhune , a peak located in the Pyrenees in the Basque Country , on the border between Spain and France . The departure station is located at the Col de Saint-Ignace, about 10 km from Saint-Jean-de-Luz between Ascain and Sare .
