I bought two of the most popular ultrasonic cutters on the market, the Chawke Sonic Cutter and the Magicutter, to see which one is actually worth the $250 price tag. In this head-to-head hands-on comparison, I test both tools on real-world 3D print cleanup jobs, stubborn plastic supports, and even a laser cut wooden model kit.
The Magicutter impressed me at first… but only slightly. It’s compact, easy to store, and better than a hobby knife, but not by much. Meanwhile, the Chawke Sonic Cutter came packed with serious power, adjustable settings, and a whole suite of extra blades and accessories. It’s bulkier, but also a beast.
If you’re a maker, modeler, or 3D printing enthusiast trying to decide between these tools, this video will show you what you actually get for your money. I break down usability, power, included accessories, quirks, and deal-breakers.
Spoiler: I kept one and returned the other. Watch the full video to find out which one earned a spot on my Fab Lab workbench.
