CDC Headquarters Shooter Kills Georgia Police Officer

Patrick Joseph White, 30, of Kennesaw, Georgia, is suspected of shooting and killing DeKalb County Police Department Officer David Rose, 33.

The shooting occurred around 5 p.m. on Friday. White opened fire toward the CDC headquarters, striking at least four buildings.

Officer Rose was found seriously injured and died at the hospital. White was found wounded at a nearby pharmacy. It is unclear whether his injuries were the result of police gunfire or a suicide.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens described White as "a known person who may have had an interest in certain matters."

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is leading the investigation, assisted by the Atlanta FBI office.

Officer Rose joined the DeKalb County Police Department in September 2024. He was a former Marine who served in Afghanistan. He leaves behind a pregnant wife and two children.
