Chain and sprocket mechanism for Rotary to Linear Motion

Описание к видео Chain and sprocket mechanism for Rotary to Linear Motion

Chain and sprocket combination is used to convert rotary to linear motion. The chain is connected to the carriage on both ends as shown in the animation. The closed loop thus formed runs over sprockets placed on either ends. One of the sprocket known as driving sprocket is connected to an electric gear motor and the other on the opposite side is idler sprocket for supporting the chain. Reduction gear box is used in order to increase the drive torque. When the driving sprocket is rotated, the chain pulls the carriage in the same direction according to the direction of rotation of the driving sprocket. The carriage can be moved in either direction by controlling the direction of rotation of the driving sprocket. This direction change is achieved by reversing rotation of the drive motor. Driving sprocket is rotated in clockwise direction for forward carriage movement and in anticlockwise direction for reverse carriage movement. Chain and sprocket mechanism offers slip less transmission hence higher loads can be transmitted. Chains should be properly lubricated for smooth operation and for longer life.
