Taichung is HUGE.

Heping District is the northernmost part of the huge chunk of Taichung, and is nearer to Yilan, Hualien, and Nantou than downtown Taichung City.

Getting to Heping District is usually through outside Taichung, and the Taichung route requires a special permit because of the nature of the road.

The drive was pretty interesting.
From Taichung City to Nantou through the wonderful highway in the middle of mountains.
from Nantou through the obscure roads up and down the mountain ranges to Fushoushan in Taichung
from Fushoushan through Nantou and then Hualien and then Nantou again to get to Hehuanshan in Hualien
from Hehuanshan through Hualien and Nantou to eventually get back via highway to Taichung City.

Sitting on the passenger seat has its perks. I wouldn't mind just driving to and from again next time.
