Episode 12 of Run Long After 60 celebrates Kevin Brunson — 66 years young, eighteen years into a daily run streak, and still lacing up every morning. What started as a simple response to people asking, “Do you run every day?” — led to “let’s do at least a mile a day.” By day 100, he couldn’t stop.
Kevin only started this path at age 48, so passing his streak’s 18th anniversary means he’s finally “getting good at it.” He’s now in the well-versed tier of streak runners (15 to less than 20 years), with only 148 people ahead of him in this rarified air. Out of 5,040 people being officially tracked, his #149 ranking places him among the top 3% of streak runners in the world.
Like many of the Run Long After 60 episodes, the strong, resilient, restless, settled, humble, and wise guests don’t spend all their time talking about accolades. Kevin reflects on how shoes, gear, and technology have evolved through nearly two decades of miles in his streak — and from the years before the streak, when he first started running in the fifth grade. From fanny packs to GPS watches, from Salomon packs to Altra Lone Peak 9s — the simple act of running has shaped every part of his life.
We cover the ups and downs of ultrarunning, Boston Marathon memories, the science of nutrition, and the magic of runner’s high after 60.
This conversation is long, unfiltered, and full of laughter — the sound of two runners who genuinely love what they do. Kevin’s medals clatter in the background, his stories span decades, and his message is clear: keep moving, keep learning, and celebrate every mile.
