🇮🇹 My second and final video on the Feast of Sant'Antonio Abate in Monterotondo recounts the final and most emotional moments of the celebration.
🐴 The cavalcade of approximately 200 decorated horses, after a tour of the town, arrives in front of the cemetery. The riders accompany the procession with continuous cries of devotion in honor of Saint Anthony, repeated in various forms and especially in the Sabine dialect, one of the most authentic features of the festival.
🎺 In front of the cemetery, an intense moment of commemoration of the deceased takes place, with the performance of "Silenzio" (a piece traditionally used in moments of reflection) by the Saint Anthony Band, which plays aboard a carriage, creating a solemn and emotional atmosphere.
⛪ The procession then returns to the Cathedral for the final Holy Mass and the most anticipated moment: the handover of the statue of Saint Anthony the Abbot to the new family who will host it in their home, setting up a small domestic altar for the entire year. The church is filled with great emotion, with hugs, applause, and a few tears.
🔥 After the handover of the Saint, upon exiting the Cathedral, the celebration explodes into a joyful atmosphere: the Band of the Eretina Musical Association welcomes the procession with festive music, while fireworks and the Torciata (an endless torchlight procession) accompany the statue of Saint Anthony through the streets of the town to the home of the new "lord."
The celebrations continue in the new home that will host the Saint, with celebratory speeches, popular participation, and more band music, sealing a tradition that unites faith, community, and local identity.
