Are you going to have a hysterectomy, want one, know someone who is going to have one, or are you just plain curious about this fascinating yet often misunderstood medical procedure? You’re in the right place!

In this video we will be covering all of the hysterectomy basics, accompanied by my own personal experience of getting one.

In mid-2024 I had my uterus removed (I kept the cervix) after years of attempting to manage heavy and painful menstruation. I’d tried continuous use of the pill, the patch, the NuvaRing, three IUDs, tranexamic acid, and an endometrial ablation. Unfortunately, none of these worked well enough in the long term.

I’d tried once previously to get a hysterectomy 4 years ago, but was denied by insurance. After exhausting all other options, my new insurance approved the surgery and I was able to have it done.

In my years of educating myself about hysterectomies, I picked up a lot of knowledge that was essential for me in making my decision(s). I benefitted so much from hearing other people share about their experiences, I decided to put everything together into a mega-video that covers all of the technical knowledge I accumulated plus my personal experience of the surgery.

This video is NOT comprehensive- please do further research on things brought up in the video, my goal was just to compile everything I found important as a jumping off point for other people.

By the way! I used some gendered language (the words women, and she/her pronouns) in this video only because I found it cumbersome and a bit awkward to write the whole thing in fully gender-neutral language that isn’t yet entirely natural to me. However, I think the concept of gender is nonsense, and this video is for everybody who is interested in it. Abolish gender!!!
