AMTRAK DASH 8

You just had to be there...
On April 22, 2024 AMTK #503, a GE Dash 8-32BWH, led southbound Pacific Surfliner train 580 from Los Angeles to San Diego. The SC-44 Charger originally on point had a mechanical issue and lucky enough 503 happened to be the savior. Dozens of railfans gathered trackside last minute to witness a rarity. For some of us older railfans (in our twenties and thirties) this was nostalgic as it was more often to witness these locomotives on the Surfline. I sure hope this wasn't the last time a Dash 8 leads. Enjoy the video as we chase AMTK #503 from Encinitas, Sorrento Valley, and Downtown San Diego!
