Year 7 Redhill student Issy Walker has been awarded a backing the best grant for tennis from Sport England managed by SportsAid.

The backing the best award grant will provide Issy, age 12 from Pedmore, with vital funds to help with the increasing costs of training and playing at such a high level, so that she can continue on her tennis journey.

Issy is one of a small number of British junior tennis players on the LTA’s under 14 national age group program – a program designed to support her on the path to becoming an internationally competitive junior player – and is currently the only child on the program within the entire Midlands region. She trains at the Edgbaston Priory club and at Nottingham Tennis Centre and compete across the UK and Europe.

All backing the best athletes must demonstrate outstanding ability to be eligible for the funding. “As one of the countries most promising athletes we are proud to be able to support you and hope the award helps you to achieve your ambitions“ said sports aids representative.

Backing the Best is supported by National Lottery funding which aims to level the playing field among England’s brightest sporting prospects. SportsAid is a national charity which helps talented athletes to achieve their ambitions.
