Highlights as William "Bill" Koch wins the silver medal in the men's 30km cross-country skiing event at the Innsbruck 1976 Olympic Winter Games.



At the Innsbruck 1976 Olympic Winter Games, Bill Koch first gained people's attention by using an innovative skiing technique which applied movements similar to those used in speed skating.

Though he might not have developed the technique, his performance at the Games did much to spread it around the world of cross-country skiing.

As he won the silver medal in the Men's 30 kilometres mass start event - behind soviet Sergey Savelyev - Bill Koch became the first American cross-country skier to win an Olympic medal.
