California solar bike tour: Oakland to San Diego

What with the wildfires resulting in road closures and terrible air quality, record high temperatures and the pandemic, this seemed like a terrible time to take a ride down the coast to visit relatives. Then again, it's going to be another 6 months before we have more than 12 hours of daylight so I decided to go for it.

All complaints aside, this is an epic bike ride and would normally be populated with travelers from all over the world who've come to experience the sights. This year, I nearly had it all to myself. In 12 travel days, I encountered 2 groups of cyclists making short, local overnight trips and one guy from Arizona who started in Reno, Nevada and was making his way down the coast "until temperatures in Arizona drop below 100°."
