Part 2 of the Stipendia Info series. In this video, we talk about the types of Pay as your Earn enquiries.

There are two types of enquiry:

1. A PAYE Compliance Visit – this is where HMRC wish to carry out a routine PAYE compliance visit. The first step is a letter from HMRC stating their intention to visit and inspect your records. They must give at least 7 days notice. What should you do? Inform your accountant or payroll provider of the visit and ask them to attend.

2. PAYE/NIC Disputes – This is a challenge by HMRC to the accuracy or completeness of returns submitted in accordance with PAYE regulations. It will feature a disagreement over both the way in which PAYE has been operated and over the amount of PAYE/NIC due.
