On my way back to France. I visit three Churches. The first one is de Grote kerk in Breda in the South of holland.
This fifteenth-century building has a regal air about it. It was built on the initiative of the ancestors of the present Dutch royal house. Although the church now looks austere, white and airy, most of it was originally painted quite colourfully. Some of those paintings are still visible today. With its impressive statues, tomb slabs, painted vaults and murals, the church is not just a religious building but also an important artistic, historical and political monument.
