There's something about laboring in the kitchen—dicing fresh vegetables, boiling water, frantically looking for the vanilla cream—that brings people together. Such is the philosophy behind Community Cooks, one of Appetite for Change's biggest projects, where youth, new moms and families get together once a month to make a healthy and nutritious meal. The produce is fresh, the cost is free, and the cooks get to take the leftovers home to enjoy another day. "The community gets this worry-free space," said Appetite for Change co-founder Princess Titus. "You just come in, and then you got teens next to their moms; they are in the kitchen, talking about 'is that how you cook this? Or is that how I cook that? Or why do you do it that way?'"

Appetite for Change is grounded around the notion that food can be used to create health, wealth and social change.
