Скачать или смотреть (Heavy) Thunderstorm Drenches Montreal's West Island - June 6th, 2023

A pair of thunderstorms that occurred just over an hour apart in Montreal’s West Island during the mid- to late-afternoon on this day. This was this area’s 5th thunderstorm day this year.

The thunderstorm occurred in response to modest instability interacting with a series of ill-defined shortwave troughs. The thunderstorms produced occasional lightning, mostly due to the low humidity. The steep mid-level cooling rates and strong low-level destabilization (despite large amounts of forest fire smoke in the area), contributed largely to the modest instability. Shearing fields were also weak, which caused the thunderstorms to be slow-moving and briefly-sustained. The first thunderstorm produced a few lightning strikes, along with some heavy sweeping rainfall. The second thunderstorm induced heavy rainfall and one lightning strike.
