In this lesson we study the Introductory Overview (0.0–0.6) of the General Handbook: Serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This training is for leaders and members who want to understand how to use the handbook in a faithful, Christ-centered way.
The Lord taught, “Let every man learn his duty, and to act in the office in which he is appointed, in all diligence” (Doctrine and Covenants 107:99). A calling is not only work. A calling is a blessing. As we serve, we represent Jesus Christ. We learn our duties, we seek personal revelation, and we care for people with love.
In this introduction we focus on three guiding helps:
Personal revelation to learn and fulfill the duties of our calling.
Scriptures and living prophets to understand doctrine and receive spiritual power.
The General Handbook to understand principles, policies, and procedures, while still seeking the guidance of the Holy Ghost.
We also cover what the handbook is, why it is organized with numbered sections, and why that numbering helps leaders quickly find guidance. We talk about adaptation and optional resources, because not all wards and branches have the same needs. We learn what to do when questions are not directly answered, including relying on covenants, counseling with leaders, and following the Spirit.
We also review key terminology, including how some terms apply to branches and districts, how “Sunday” references apply to the local Sabbath day, and what “unit” means in the handbook. Finally, we cover when to contact Church headquarters or the area office, depending on your location.
The purpose of this lesson is simple: use the handbook with the Spirit, love and serve others, strengthen homes, and represent the Savior.
✅ If this helps you, please like, subscribe, and share with a leader or teacher.
📌 Next lesson: we continue deeper into the handbook and practice applying it in real situations with Christlike love.
