The data page of the e-passport is paper-made and is covered with a thin holographic layer. The layer, on its turn, is embellished with shimmering illustrations of plants of different seasons of the year. Furthermore, when held to the light, the data page unveils the multitone watermark in the form of the sacred symbol of Japan, Mount Fuji as well as the traditional Japanese cherry blossoms. Finally, under UV light, the data page reveals a secondary holder’s portrait on the right side along with a seal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the middle.

Speaking of the inner pages, they are decorated with the renowned ukiyo-e print series of “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji” by Katsushika Hokusai. The series depicts Mount Fuji from different angles and in various weather conditions. Each inner page spread shows a different picture of the series. Lastly, the "Tama river in the Musashi province" image on the inside back cover brings the finishing touch to the document design.
