Romanian orphans: After the fall of communism and the brutal Ceausescu regime in Romania in 1989, the world was exposed to the plight of over 300,000 Romanian orphans who were abandoned and locked away in deplorable institutions. Due to the lack of human touch, these Romanian children suffered from neurological disorders, mental disabilities, learning disabilities and lapses in their sensory motor skills. These disorders lessened the possibility for these children to be adopted.

In 1996, a volunteer physical therapy team with Medical Teams International traveled to Romanian orphanages to train workers on infant massage therapy and other therapeutic techniques for orphaned children suffering from sensory deprivation. In this short documentary, Diana Moore, founder of the International Loving Touch Foundation, explains the continuous rocking motion of these isolated children and how human touch stimulates the development of sensory motor skills.
