In a center-hung or overhang fan application, there are bearings on each side, and no horizontal inlet running into the fan like there is in a typical installation. That means the air needs to turn in to the fan from the top or side, requiring an inlet box. Arrangement 7 Fans accommodate this with an integral inlet box welded on to the housing. I’m standing next to a center-hung Arrangement 7 design. So what makes up an Arrangement 7? Let’s start with the front back here. We have a bearing on this side of the inlet box, and then we have an integral inlet box. This inlet box is critical to this design because this is a center-hung design. If you look on this side of the fan housing, we have another bearing. So one bearing is there, one bearing is here; the wheel is hung in the center. And so because you have a bearing on the inlet side, you don’t have what would typically be a horizontal inlet running into the fan, you must turn the air either down and in or from this side into the fan, and so an inlet box is integral to this design, and that’s why it’s actually welded on to the housing right here. As we move to this side, on the other side of that bearing you have a motor, so this is a direct-drive application.
