If you’re looking for powerful pesticides that kill quickly and protect treated areas for a long time, then look for products made with bifenthrin. Bifenthrin is a potent pyrethroid that will treat over 70 different household pests, so in this video, we’ll teach you about the ingredient itself and recommend some products made with it.

Bifenthrin, first registered by the US EPA in 1985, is a pyrethroid insecticide used to control over 70 different pests. Pyrethroids are an artificial class of insecticide, made to mimic the pyrethrins found in chrysanthemum flowers. Bifenthrin is synthesized in various forms, including but not limited to powders, granules, and liquids.

These insecticides are used indoors and outdoors to control many pests, like ants, termites, cockroaches, ticks, mole crickets, stink bugs, armyworms, and many other invasive, turf, or ornamental pests as well.

Bifenthrin is a pyrethroid, so its mode of action works by contact or ingestion. This ingredient interferes with the pest’s central nervous system, inflicting paralysis and knocking the pest down. This paralysis creates an inability to function or eat which eventually leads to the pest’s death. It can take minutes to several hours for a pest to die.

When allowed to dry on a surface, bifenthrin will leave a long-lasting residual that will continue to control pests for a duration, typically several months. Bifenthrin has a repelling effect, but insects that make contact with the treated areas while the residual is active will be affected.

If you’re looking for versatile, broad-spectrum pest control, then we recommend you use a product like Supreme I/T. Supreme I/T is an insecticide concentrate made with 7.9% bifenthrin. Use Supreme I/T indoors and outdoors to treat pest infestations or prevent them from breaking out. To treat most pests, you can mix up to 1 whole fluid ounce of product into 1 gallon of water to apply evenly over 1,000 square feet of treatment area.

Once your solution is mixed, you can apply it as a broadcast spray, as a barrier spray, and into cracks and crevices. Spray around baseboards, around water pipes, around doors & windows, and behind & underneath appliances. You can apply this product over lawns, ground cover, shrubs, flowers, non-bearing fruit & nut trees, and exterior structural features such as around doors, windows, eaves, utility penetrations, external lighting, or any other voids leading into the structure. For broadcast spraying, surface spraying, or barrier spraying, use a fan nozzle spray setting to get uniform coverage. For crack-and-crevice spraying, use a pin-stream nozzle setting for precision application.
Pests that make contact with the spray or its residual will have their nervous systems impacted and will die within hours. Supreme I/T will leave a residual that will last for up to 90 days.

If you’re looking to just treat pests in your lawn, then we recommend you use Bifen L/P Insecticide Granules. Bifen L/P is a granular insecticide made with 0.2% bifenthrin, so we recommend you apply this product with a broadcast push spreader. Depending on what pests you’re targeting, you can apply 1.15 to 4.6 pounds of product per 1,000 square feet of treatment area. Once you’ve completed the application, water the product into the soil with at least 2 gallons of water per one thousand square feet.

Turf pests like armyworms, mole crickets, or other pests on the product’s label that travel through the grass or soil will come in contact with the active ingredient and die. Bifen L/P will control turf pests on your lawn for up to 3 months.
