Stars of Star Trek: Section 31, sit for an interview to discuss the newest Trek film, and first Trek movie in almost a decade. I got to speak with Humberly González and Kacey Rohl on this newest Trek film (and first in almost a decade) and how much fun it was creating their characters.

Kacey Rohl got her start playing the roles of ‘Sterling Fitch’ in AMC’s THE KILLING and ‘Prudence’ in the 2011 dark fantasy film, RED RIDING HOOD. In 2019, Kacey’s film WHITE LIE premiered at TIFF and she was highlighted on the 2019 TIFF Rising Stars List.

Kacey has been widely recognized for her role of ‘Abigail Hobbs’ in NBC’s HANNIBAL, which she received many reviews comparing her to a young Jodie Foster. She recurred on Syfy’s THE MAGICIANS and FOX’s WAYWARD PINES. Other credits include lead roles in ABC’s drama pilot DOUBT, NBC’s sitcom WORKING THE ENGLES, and ABC’s pilot sequel to L.A. LAW.

Humberly Gonzalez can currently be seen as the title character in award winning global hit Star Wars video game STAR WARS: OUTLAWS from Ubisoft and LucasFilm. The game is set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Her character, Kay Vess, is a woman seeking freedom and the means to start a new life.

Star Trek: Section 31 is directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi and written by Craig Sweeny for the streaming service Paramount+. It is the first television film, and the fourteenth film overall, in the Star Trek franchise and part of executive producer Alex Kurtzman's expanded Star Trek Universe. A spin-off from the series Star Trek: Discovery, the film is set in the franchise's "lost era" between the Star Trek: The Original Series films and the series Star Trek: The Next Generation. It follows Philippa Georgiou as she works with Section 31, a secret division of Starfleet tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, and must face the sins of her past.

The film stars Michelle Yeoh, Omari Hardwick, Sam Richardson, Robert Kazinsky, Kacey Rohl, Sven Ruygrok, James Hiroyuki Liao, Humberly González, and Joe Pingue.

In Section 31, both actors play characters that can be considered deep cuts in the Star Trek universe. Rohl plays Rachel Garrett, who has already made an appearance in Star Trek: The Next Generation, and González plays 'Melle', a Deltan - a species that only occasionally pops up in the lore.
