Karnak Open Air Museum is an archaeological museum located in the northwestern corner of Karnak Temple. The Open Air Museum contains reconstructions of structures that have been dismantled and buried or hidden inside the massive pylons in Karnak complex. Most visitors skip this collection of stones, statues and shrines, but it is definitely worth a look. The great number of these pieces, as well as their historical and artistic interest, have justified the creation of a museum to allow them to be viewed in the best possible conditions, not only for the specialists, but also for the public. In 1987 the Egyptian Antiquities Organization decided to open the first part of the museum in order to display the most interesting blocks. The Open Air Museum at Karnak temple contains also some unique historical, now reconstructed, chapels: Red Chapel of Hatshepsut, White Chapel of Senusret I, Calcite shrine of Amenhotep II, Barque shrine of King Tuthmosis III, Chapel of Amenhotep I and Barque Chapel of Thutmosis IV.
