Live Editing Sessions - Capture One - 22nd April 2021 (cityscapes, iceland, landscapes + Apple M1)

Описание к видео Live Editing Sessions - Capture One - 22nd April 2021 (cityscapes, iceland, landscapes + Apple M1)

We begin today discussing the potential new developments when it comes to Capture One Pro running on Apple's M1 systems, along with the challenges involved in porting things to iOS - essentially, the M1 iPad Pro doesn't necessarily mean a quick path to Capture One on iOS itself.

(Plus, we give a first-look sneak-peek of Capture One 21 running on an M1 chip, on an iPad Pro - or do we...? 😉 )

On to editing, we start by looking at some preferences around exposure warnings for highlights and shadows, and recommendations as to what to set them to. While there's no "right answer", we talk about the reasons for leaving the levels set high for highlights and off for shadows.

Moving on, we start with Claudiu's cityscape image of Canary Wharf - an in-camera pixel shift shot which shows signs of a little softness and some challenges with the highlights of the city lights. Using a whole range of tools, from Clarity, to local Structure, to HDR recovery and even diffraction correction at f/5.6 - we bring this shot to life without pushing any one element too far.

Next up, we tackled the challenges in Krisjan's shot of a Land Rover in Iceland. Among the lush green and volcanic rocks, the original edit had tried to recover details while adding contrast - resulting in a noticeable colour shift and flattening of the overall shot.

Using a mix of style brushes, keystone adjustments, the contrast tool and gradient masks, we bring this scene back to its rugged origins.

And finally, we make some small adjustments to Andrew's shot of Snowdonia. Making sure to match the feel of the light source against the feel of the recipient of the light, we start by demonstrating just how much detail could be brought back from the highlights and then use both the exposure tool and HDR sliders to enact that change.

Mixing white balances between foreground and background results in a more cohesive image that hangs together as a single scene without the harsh foreground against the overexposed sky.

We recommend requesting the HD option in Chrome via YouTube for full 1440p screen captures.

A trimmed replay will be available in our Facebook Group and YouTube channel following the live stream. (But give those systems a couple of hours to publish the trimmed version!)
