Hi, everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer.com. And today we are looking at our Kuat Sherpa 2.0 two bike rack here on our 2021 Hyundai Tucson. Now, the Kuat Sherpa is a good bike rack if you are looking for something that is not as pricey as let's say the Kuat NV, but it still has all of the the great features you may want or you may need for your bike rack. So first it has the feature of tilting away. Let's take a look at that.

So to tilt it away, you need to pull this lever and then this will cause it to tilt down, and you're gonna want that tilt down feature if you want to access your hatch. So you can see here as our door comes up, there's actually a lot of space between our door and our bike's handlebars allowing us to get in there maybe grab our water, or our helmets, or our bags without having to take our bike off. Even with our slightly longer handlebars, there was no issue at all with that. And then when you wanna go on a ride again, you just lift this back up and then it locks into place. Now let's talk about the way that our bike is mounted to this bike rack.

This has a front wheel clamp here in the front, and that's nice because then you don't have to worry about a hook coming down and possibly warping your frame. Also, if you have alternate frame bikes like your women's bikes or your children's bikes or step through bikes, this will decrease or mean you don't have to use a frame adapter bar. And then here in the back you have this rear wheel strap. So this goes around your wheel, and it has a ratcheting mechanism to secure that wheel. So when you wanna take your bike off, this is where you would start.

Press that button, and lift up on that strap, and let's bring it to the side so that's not in the way when you take our bike off. Then you come here to the front, and then make sure to hold onto your bike as you do so. Press this button, lift up on that, and then push it out of the way. From there, it's just a slight lift, and you are ready to go on a bike ride. And with this bike out of the way, let's take a closer, closer look at the bike rack itself.

So that rear cradle can tilt back and forth. This is to accommodate different wheel bases, and that strap comes down and it secures that wheel. Then here at the front, that front wheel hook has padding here at the top, as well as different sizes for different bike tire sizes. And this ratchets down to secure that front wheel. And then this is a nice and compact design because as you can see, this cradle comes down for a nice flat surface and it has a weight capacity of 40 pounds. That means if you have your heavy electric bikes, this might not be the best option. I recommend taking a look at either the Kuat Transfer or the Kuat NV. But for your regular normal mountain bikes, road bikes, 40 pounds is usually more than enough. Another thing to look at is when you have a bike rack on your vehicle, there is a little bit of length added to the back of it. So let's take some measurements. Measuring from our rear bumper on our Tucson, all the way to the end of the bike rack. Right over there, it is about 31 and a half inches. That's a decent length for a two bike bike rack, but it's still something to keep in mind when you're backing in to your garage or parking into a tight spot. Don't forget that that's the extra length back there. Let's also talk about ground clearance. So measuring from underneath the trays on the bike rack, it's gonna sit at 20 inches. Now measuring from where that shank is, it's gonna sit at 11 and a half inches. Now that's not as much ground clearance down there so it's a really good thing that this comes up. That way, if you're going up a steep incline, you have a little bit of extra hype to work with and you don't have to worry as much when you're going up like a driveway or a hill. Another thing this has, is this has a cable lock. That way if you are driving around town, you can lock up your bikes and protect or deter theft. Another of its features is that this can hold up if you want a little less length. To do so, you pull on this lever, and then that folds up against your vehicle. With it right here, let's take some measurements. So measuring from that bumper to right where that mast is, it sits at six and a half inches. But there's a little extra length back in near towards the bottom. That's gonna be 13 and a half inches. As for closest point, it
