Fascinated with the new Power mosfet transistors back in 2017 I decided to try my hand at making my own 1000 watt transistor power mosfet amplifier After months of accumulating parts and studying this type of amplifier I built my own Power Mosfet kilowatt amplifier . The high voltage or is it low voltage on the Power Mosfets is 48 volts . The usual voltage for these transistors is 50 volts BUT I was told by a Ham friend that if I run them just
2 volts lower than 50 it would then be a lot harder for me to damage these transistors while experimenting so this amp is run at 48 volts instead of 50 and yes it will still produce 1000 watts it just draws a little more current at 48 volts is all. I have demonstrated the safety of having an amplifier that runs at 48 volts by placing my fingers on the bare 48 volt power supply line I don't feel anything at all when I do this . OF course I could get a nasty RF burn if I touched the power amp circuits with RF present . This was a fun project it was not an easy one I made mistakes and had to solve several problems building it . When i worked at Heathkit engineering we would say "This is not a beginners kit " One thing I forgot to mention is that many transmitters and tranceivers transmit a very short RF spike when going from receive to transmit When I first built this amp I ran it with a 7 DB input attenuator The input circuit board has a shut down circuit on it so that if you have to high of an input it shuts the amp off you then must turn off the power to the amp to reset this circuit .Since this spike occurs with many types of transmitters and tranceivers it is a real trouble maker ! What I did was to add a 3 DB Attenuator in series with the 7 db input attenuator this increased the input attenuation to 10 db and cured the problem the maximum spike now is quite low running the amp at 30 watts INPUT yields 500 watts out .
Of course I can run it at 1000 watts out but to me 500 is plenty and there is less chance of causing any damage .

73 everyone Remember when you can not go out you can stay in and do ham radio see how many countries you can talk to make new friends hundreds or even thousands of miles away " Why not try Ham radio yourself expensive you say ? You do not need a big workbench and several radios one radio and and an outdoor antenna is what many Hams use . Search for a local Ham radio club on the internet go see what is going on They are very friendly and its free! ask questions enjoy meeting all the guys .
you may just open a door to a new wonderful experience or even a new hobby .
