As if the oceans were not scary enough by themselves now you have to worry about phantom ships roaming the waters. In the history of nautical travel captains around the world have noted seeing ships that they believed to be destroyed sailing across the ocean as if nothing had happened at all. Other crews have said that they have personally sunken a ship and then the next day watched it emerge from the fog and sail by them. Here we will look at a few ghosts ships that will make you think that Captain Jack & the Black Pearl are a little more than
an exhausted Disney franchise.

The SS Valencia
This is a story that seems to be ripped directly from Pirates of the Caribbean. The SS Valencia was an American steamship that met its fate on January 20th, 1906 off the coast of Pachena Bay. The ship left with 157 passengers headed towards Vancouver Island. The ship made its voyage safely but it was its return trip that brought tragedy.

The SS Baychimo
The SS Baychino is the terminator of ghost ships. The steamship was built-in 1914 and was used as a cargo ship by the Hudson Bay Company. The ship was mostly used to transport goods such as tobacco, sugar down the Canadian coast. They also transported an inordinate amount of guns that we are sure the Canadians have no use for. But all those guns and ferried furs could not save the SS Baychimo from the icy fate that it met in 1931.

Jenny
The Jenny is one of the most infamous tales of a ghost ship. It first set sail in 1823 but was not seen again until 1840 trapped in the South Pole snow. A whaling ship had come across the boat and decided to board it as it seemed out-of-place. When they entered the ship they noticed that there seemed to be no one aboard. The ship had fallen into disrepair but much of the furniture and table settings were perfectly in place. Upon further investigation, the whalers found a truly horrifying sight when they entered the hull of the ship. The entire crew of the ship along with a woman and young boy were found dead.

High Aim 6
One of the strangest modern-day ghost ships comes from Taiwan and was named the High Aim 6. The ship left the Southern Port of Taiwan in October on its way to an unknown destination. The ship's captain was last heard from in December when sending out a distress simply screaming about murder. The concerned coast guard sent out ships to search for the High Aim 6 but failed to find the ship.

The Mary Celeste
The story of the Mary Celeste is surrounded by the most mysterious of circumstances. To this day there is no definitive explanation as to what happened to the captain and crew. The crew set sail in November of 1872 on its way to Italy. It should have taken just a short time for the ship to arrive in the harbor but after 8 days the shipping company became suspicious. They sent out a rescue party to search for the ship and that is exactly what they found, only they didn't find the crew, they had completely disappeared.

Ourang Medan
The accounts of this tale could be the basis for a horror story. The Ourang Medan was a Dutch Cargo ship active in the 1940s. The ship was sailing off the coast of Malaysia when it sent out a distress signal reading " "S.O.S. from Ourang Medan * * * we float. All officers including the Captain, dead in chartroom and on the bridge. Probably whole of crew dead * * *." A few moments later the final message read "I die". 2 American ships received the message and the Silver Star decided it would make the rescue attempt. Upon arriving at the ship the crew was surprised that the Ourang Medan was almost perfectly intact.
