first off let me start by saying that i am not sponsored or do i have any association with zman... second let me just say that zman makes awesome baits..
ok now that we know i'm a fan of zman products let's get through the do's and don'ts when it comes to using their elaztech soft plastic baits..
elaztech baits should always be kept in the original packaging and never mixed with other baits or put into plastic tackle box cases... NEVER.. they will melt down taking anything they are touching along with them...
this includes baits after you already have them rigged up.. so you'll need to un rig the bait and put it back into it's package.. now i admit i don't always do this either but just know that you stand a chance of destroying the bait if you don't..
when it comes to rigging the elaztech onto hooks jigs and other baits like chatterbaits.. it's a simple process but can take a short time to get the hang of because you can't really rig them like traditional plastics.. you can also find jigs and baits that have wire keepers more set up for the elaztech.. when using them on jig heads i recommend VMC as they have pretty much every style of jig or hook you could want and work well with the elaztech.. the main 3 jigs i use are their half moon finesse jig, ike approved finesse rugby and also ike approved wacky jig heads... there are several different brands that they work with.. i also like the bagley shakey head jigs.. i mainly use a 1/16oz. head as it seems to be the sweet spot for most of my needs but i also have the 1/8oz and even heavier for just in case i need to go deeper but in shallower grass no more than 6 to 8 ft. the 1/16 or even 1/8 oz. get the job done.
the lighter baits let you work the baits across the tops of the grass instead of getting completely hung up and ruining the cast or spooking the fish...
