Описание к видео Meghan Fashion - Royal SHOCK: How Queen Elizabeth II received BIZARRE gift when she married Prince

The royal couple’s blissful marriage has gone from strength to strength over 72 years, which has seen Elizabeth transform from Princess to Queen, have four children, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. When the monarch’s father King George VI gave his blessing for the couple’s marriage in 1946, Prince Philip admitted he had “fallen in love completely and unreservedly”. The Duke of Edinburgh proposed to the Queen with a three-carat round diamond ring consisting of “a centre stone flanked by 10 smaller pave diamonds”. According to 2014 documentary “The Majestic Life of Queen Elizabeth II”, the couple received around 1700 wedding presents for their big day. However, several hundreds of the same item were only for Elizabeth. Royal biographer Robert Lacey said: “One of the charming things is that, I think, of the 1700 or so wedding presents that were officially listed, several hundreds were nylon stockings, which loyal ladies in the country decided to send to the princess. “They knew, in those hard times, what every girl wanted.” In 1941, Britain introduced clothes rationing to conserve materials and valuable products for World War 2 troops and nylon stockings were some of the first items to go. As World War 2 had ended a mere two years before Elizabeth and Philip’s wedding, certain things were still subject to rationing, including nylon stockings. Princess Elizabeth and Philip also received a piece of cotton lace from Mahatma Gandhi that he spun himself and had embroidered with the words Jai Hind, meaning Victory for India. A box of home-grown apples, 500 tins of pineapple, two dozen handbags, 12 bottles of sloe gin were also officially listed as their gifts. Rather than keep the generosity of their well-wishers to themselves, Elizabeth and Philip decided to show them off to benefit charity. Between 1947 and 1948, more than 200,000 people came to St. James's Palace to view the some of the wonderful wedding gifts they had received.
