Jason Heistad - Niverville, MB

Jason’s journey started in the east central region in Saskatchewan when he was born into a musical family. At age 10 he started to compete in fiddle contests through Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Later he was hired as house fiddler with Calvin Vollrath on the CTV Show Number One West. Jason is a recipient of 7 SCMA (Saskatchewan Country Music Association) Fiddler of the Year awards.

He has produced several artists in Canada and appeared in the TV Show Corner Gas, and had engineered many TV productions while in Regina.

Now living in Manitoba with Jackie, his wife of 18 years and musical son Judah, Jason has built a beautiful acoustically treated studio to capture the sounds of the artists he encounters with world class equipment.

I probably met Jason in the late ‘70’s or early ‘80’s at one of the Saskatchewan fiddle contests. My mom took a shine to Jason for not only his great fiddling, but because he had a head full of red hair and he would wear red plaid pants. Mom endearingly referred to him as “Fancy Pants,” and probably loved them so much because she would make me wear the matching red plaid skirt and vest. It’s so great to reconnect with Jason after so many years and it’s wonderful to have him living so close. Thank you so much, Jason, for contributing this beautiful rendition of a classic.
