Wisdom from Wolaba: Elder, Walta Kelly, on Life and Culture, "Even The Elected Must Be Attentive"

I had the honor and privilege to speak with Walter Kelly, better known as Walta, about his life in Wolaba and the state of Puerto Viejo today. Walta has been a cornerstone of the Puerto Viejo (Wolaba) community, sharing his love for music, his delicious rice and beans, his wisdom and knowledge of farming, and always offering a helping hand. If you've ever met Walta, you can feel his energy and spirit from the first interaction. The love of life and the Most High shines through his eyes. He believes it's time for the Afro-descendants of Limón, Costa Rica; especially in Puerto Viejo, to unite and work together like they did when he was young.

Every Sunday, he hosts "Fi Di Culture," a community event for the family that showcases local talent, Caribbean food, and vendors. It takes place at the basketball court in the center of town. You have to try his rice and beans!
