The steps to take to prep your furniture for paint can vary depending on the specific piece and the desired outcome, but here are some general steps to follow:

Step 1: Clean the furniture thoroughly to remove any dirt, grease, or old finishes.

Step 2: Sand the surface to create a smooth and even base for the paint.

Step 3: Prime & Repair
Note: It is a personal preference whether you repair before or after you prime. I like to repair after I prime (if there are no HUGE repairs such as big holes to fill or hardware holes to fill) because the primer highlights the additional imperfections that will show through the paint if not fixed.

-Wipe down the piece of furniture with a tack cloth. I subscribe to them on Amazon to get a better price and automatically delivered as it's something I use on EVERY furniture flip.
-Repair using either wood filler or Bondo all purpose putty or Bondo glazing putty (used for small holes and Knicks).
-Sand smooth with 220 grit sandpaper, and prime again as needed.
Sand smooth with a high grit (320 grit or higher).
