1982 Honda CB900C - CB900 Custom 10 speed

The Honda CB900C or "Custom" has very different styling from its sportier cousin the CB900F SuperSport. The CB900C came with a dual range Hi/Lo gearbox fixed to the back side of the transmission, with a shaft drive to the rear wheel. This effectively gives the rider 10 different "gears" to select from. The transmission is a 5 speed. Most riders just select either Hi or Lo based on their preferred riding style. The Lo range is great for sportier riding around town, or through the twisties. While Hi range is perfect for cruising, interstate traveling, and commuting to save on gas a little. I've heard of some riders that use Hi range as an "Overdrive", meaning they start out in Lo range, go thru the 5 gears, then select Hi range as a 6th speed. The styling on the CB900C is much for 80's Japanese cruiser with the pullback handlebars, teardrop tank, 4 into 4 chrome exhaust, and stepped seat. It also came from the factory with air adjustable rear shocks with a red light on the tachometer to warn if pressure was low. The engine is typical Honda for the era, with dual overhead cams, 8 valves, 4 Keihin CV carburetors, and electronic ignition. Front brakes were dual disc with dual piston calipers. Rear braking was from a single disc with a dual piston caliper. Both wheels are the riveted Comstar style wheels that Honda used in the late 70's / early 80's on so many different models.
