So, for the last 20 years, despite not always explicitly present, One Piece has been a constant companion for me, so you can imagine the excitement when the trailer showed up and the end result did not disappoint, quite the opposite. Despite the small tweaks here and there, they managed to capture the spirit of the original brilliantly as well the world building and you can feel the love poured into this project. The cast is fantastic and the need for a hundred more seasons to be secured already is strong.
While romance is a powerful tool, the animanga for me personally was always special because Oda-san did concentrate on the overall concept instead of romance for the sake of including.

And I’ve been happy celebrating the bound of the found family greatness that is Strawhats.
Until ep.2 (you know the scene) came along and every scene I suddenly had to reflect upon the intense stares. And the parallels. And the old married couple behaviour, which even made me go back and re-evaluate their past interactions and turned into a rewatch where I suddenly couldn’t help but see them as a mere Brotp anymore…

Tbh, even if it is not likely that anything will happen in that regard (again, I respect that choice since not everything has to be shoehorned into the story in order to fit the classic “But they are hot young people, they need love interests!” plot), the point of fandom is to have fun and get creative, so ship whatever you want, whether platonically or romantically, and interpret this edit as you like. Also, I do not condone bashing of any ship or characters here, so if you don’t like this pairing, you can kindly see yourself out. Have another watch of the show, it is really good!
