We come from a country where one door leads to the philosophy of one religion, while the pillars are based on the mythology of another. Yet, never have we heard a story of a war between the gods of different religions. Isn’t it possible that all the gods were best friends, creating the world over a cup of coffee? Or perhaps, isn’t it possible that all the gods are actually just one?

To seek the answer to this question, we wandered through the narrow lanes of Mumbai. Lanes where a person wearing a cross sells a masjid's chadar against a wall adorned with a painting of Bhagwan. As we explored these lanes, one person caught our attention. He is a fourth-generation artist who does gold leafing on idols of gods. With a little gold dust sprinkled all over him, he said, “I never learned this skill; I was born with it.”

He told us about the places he has worked and the people he has met. Then, with a bit of hesitation, he added, “But this year, someone told me they won't get the idol made by me.” Suddenly, the shine of the gold and the sparkle in his eyes dimmed.
When we asked, ‘Why?’ his answer made us reflect deeply...

Religion as faith can make our world meaningful. But religion as a force will not let the world exist. So which side of religion are we on?
