"How to clean a green pool" is a step-by-step guide to clearing an algae bloom. We start with a green swamp, and turn it into a sparkling oasis.

There are a lot of different chemicals you can use to clean a green swimming pool, but the BEST ones for YOUR pool depend on your chemical levels.

For that reason, the first thing you should do is get a good test kit with a FAS-DPD test for Free Chlorine.

Once you have chemical readings, you can use the following products to clean a green pool (aka Shock / SLAM your pool):

Granular Chlorine (Di Chlor / Trichlor) https://poolsupplyworld.com/di-chlor-...
- This also adds CYA (stabilizer), so only use if CYA is low

Cal Hypo (aka Shock) https://poolsupplyworld.com/cal-hypo-...
- This adds Calcium, so will raise your CH level

Liquid Chlorine
- This will only effect your FC level, and will NOT raise CYA or CH
- You can use household beach, but be aware of the % strength

Use the CYA-FC Chart (linked below) to determine what shock level is for your pool. Then use the Pool Calculator (also linked below) to see how much chlorine to add to your pool.

Raise the pool to shock level, and keep it there until:
- pool water is clear
- CC (Combined Chlorine) reading of 0.5 ppm or less
- Pass OCLT (Overnight Chlorine Loss Test)

Be sure to run your filter 24/7 during the SLAM process.

Also do the following DAILY:
- Test FC level (at least twice per day, 3-4 is ideal)
- Add required chlorine to raise pool to shock level
- Backwash your filter
- Vacuum debris from pool floor (to waste)
- Brush pool walls
