Stinson Beach was named to honor largest local landlords, the Stinson family who bought the land in 1866. The park has spacious picnic area at the parking lot, which is currently undergoes some improvement. Pets are allowed only on the north part of the beach.
The population of the area started to grow after 1916 when people affected by the earthquake in San Francisco moved in.
