Turning an Old VINTAGE HEADBOARD into a custom FIREPLACE??

I bought this, stored it for years, then tried to sell it, and then tried even giving it away. No one wanted it. Finally, I gave in to the fact that this was mine for good, and decided to repurpose it into a custom fireplace surround/mantle for a new relaxation room I'm creating for myself.

I had to build a frame and front panel for the electric insert I bought, making sure to follow all of the recommended thresholds as outlined in the manual. Even though this isn't real fire, these inserts need room to properly vent. I tried to do this as economically as possible, using up scrap bits of plywood and MDF left over from other projects, and some solid walnut offcuts.

While there are some things I'd probably do differently were I to do this all again, overall I'm please with it, and I'll be sure to send along updated photos of it once it's installed in the new room.
